Home   Betty Bonura was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana. She attended St. Francis Xavier Grammar School and graduated from Riverdale High, and has been a resident of the City of Kenner since 1985. Ms. Bonura's family members have been lifelong residents of Jefferson Parish.

Ms. Bonura received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Louisiana State University and her Masters of Social Work, majoring in Community Organization and Planning, from Tulane University. She is a graduate of the Kenner Citizens Police Academy, and has been a Louisiana licensed real estate salesperson since 1983.
A former Social Worker for the State of Louisiana, Ms. Bonura worked in a specialized foster care unit in five parishes for children physically handicapped, emotionally disturbed and mentally retarded before doing clinical substance abuse counseling at the New Orleans Mental Health Clinic.
Ms. Bonura served the City of Kenner from 1982 through 1993, serving under three City Mayors (Larry Hooper, Aaron Broussard, and Louis Congemi) in the capacity of a grant writer, planning director, mayoral assistant for special projects and events, city-sponsored educational programs, community affairs liason, economic development, and public administrator.
Ms. Bonura currently served as a Grants Writer/Administrator and Community Liason with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department, a position she started in April 1997 to January 2004.
Ms. Bonura was elected as Councilman-at-Large for the City of Kenner in March 1994, thus representing all of Kenner. In 1992, she was elected to the Republican State Central Committee and, in 1991, was elected to the Jefferson Parish Republican Party's Executive Committee-at-Large. She was reelected in 1995 and served as Vice Chairperson for the Jefferson Parish Republican Party.
Elected in 1990 to the Jefferson Parish School Board, Ms. Bonura served as District 9 Representative (which consists of all of North Kenner, and sections of South Kenner and Metairie). This represented over 50,000 Jefferson Parish residents.
